We were on holiday in Tenerife and had been astonished to find a type of doorstop we had never encountered before at our hotel. I am a wheelchair user and one of the biggest difficulties I endure is getting through doorways without a heavy door slamming back on me. The door to our room used a swivel and capture mechanism, the like of which we had never seen before. I looked online for them at once, and found nothing on the usual sites despite losing several hours of life to it.
On spotting this hardware shop we decided to investigate and see if we could find a similar item, as it would be the answer to one of life's problems.
I think the owner was a little surprised to see two pensioners, one of them in a wheelchair, entering his shop one morning. Trying to explain what we were after was made much easier by the owner's excellent spoken English and within seconds we were shown exactly what we were looking for. These swivel and capture door stops were designed in Spain unsurprisingly, so we bought eight units that day ( 6 for us and one each for our grown-up children as they are bound to ask) and promised to return another day just for a good look round at his extensive stock.
I find that hardware shops in the UK these days are so uninspired with boring taps and fittings being the same everywhere, which is why we like to browse items elsewhere in Europe where style takes a significantly higher priority than cost. This shop has them aplenty and there were some we would have bought there and then were it not for the meager luggage allowance.
In the end I settled for some glassware for my kitchen, but not before my husband and the owner had enjoyed a long discussion re solar panels and battery storage systems like the Tesla. Solar panels for power generation have only been legal in Spain for 2 years, so the use of domestic storage batteries is still very new. Although the shop owner was well versed in Panel technology, the Tesla battery app was new to him. They certainly don't need power for much heating in Tenerife, but they use plenty for cooling down.
Browsing hardware isn't everyone's idea of holiday fun, but I can highly recommend this business to anyone who needs something in that line. They carry quality items and the owner's language skills mean he can put you on to what you need very quickly. Thank you for looking after our requirements.
I know that people are going to ask where we got these door stops from - and I will be more than happy to tell them! No more tripping over bulky blocks, sand-filled toy dogs or wrestling with wedges.
MARCH 2025. We visited the shop again last month when on holiday once more. We were greeted with a huge grin, a warm welcome and open arms as a booming voice across the shop came -- "I know you two!" It had been a whole year, but we were greeted as old friends. It was lovely. Once more we found an item we didn't know existed - something we needed for an ongoing project at home and had been causing a DIY headache, so we bought 3 of them knowing we'd never find one in the U.K. When you don't know what an item is called, finding it is almost impossible. When you don't know if such an item even exists, it truly is impossible to find one.
The door catches we bought last year remind us every day of this wonderful shop and lovely staff - it truly was a problem solved - and I am looking forward to another visit all-being well next year. Thanks again my friends.

A visit is planned for Jan '26 and we are looking for a special kitchen mixer tap this time. In the past you have had an amazing selection of stylish and unusual taps, the like of which we never see in the UK. I know this sounds silly, but when we discovered we needed to replace the old tap, we both said what a pity it is that we could not visit your shop - today. So January it is. : )
